The name comes from a settler who gave his name to a community in the hamlet now called Pine Bush.The Town of Crawford is in the northwest corner of Orange County.Crawford was originally settled around 1740. Crawford was originally part of the Town of Montgomery. Crawford was established as a town in 1823.In 1813, the town considered itself the butter capital of the world.In 1845, the town had a population of about 2,075 people.Searsville, once an economic center and location of the town government, lost its status when the railroad came to the town through another area.
